Withdrawn / Thompson on Iraq & “War on Terror”
Words: Thompson believes we were right to invade Iraq and would continue President Bush’s policy there. He also advocates a preemptive attack on Iran, should they get close to developing nuclear weapons. “Let’s not minimize the challenges. Our nation faces a formidable enemy, in Iraq and elsewhere. … It’s obvious we can’t afford to cut and run.”
Actions: Thompson voted AGAINST authorizing air strikes in Kosovo (1999) but FOR using all necessary force (1999), and FOR authorizing the use of force against Iraq (2002).
