Words: Thompson feels we should increase our energy independence through investment in renewable and alternative sources, reducing demand for fossil fuels, but increasing domestic supplies and drilling in ANWR. “While we don’t know for certain how or why climate change is occurring, it makes sense to take reasonable steps to reduce CO2 emissions without harming our economy.”
Actions: Thompson voted FOR approving a nuclear waste repository (1997), FOR defunding renewable and solar energy (1999), AGAINST ending discussion of CAFE fuel efficiency standards (1999), FOR oil drilling in ANWR (2000 & 2002), FOR terminating CAFE standards within 15 months (2002).
