Withdrawn / Paul on Foreign Policy
Words: Paul tends to be isolationist and non-interventionist in terms of foreign policy. He feels our values should never be spread by force. “The president ran on a program of a humble foreign policy, no nation-building, and no policing of the world. And he changed his tune, and now we are fighting a war, and our foreign operations around the world to maintain our empire is now approaching $1 trillion a year.”
Actions: Paul voted AGAINST Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China (2000), AGAINST $156 million to the IMF for third world debt relief (2000), FOR maintaining the Cuba travel ban until political prisoners are released (2001), AGAINST reforming the UN by withholding US funding (2005), and AGAINST deterring foreign arms transfers to China (2005).
UPDATE: Rep Ron Paul once again showed his independence by being the only Republican candidate to not support Gen. Musharaff in Pakistan following the assassination of former PM Benazir Bhutto.
