Obama on Crime & Punishment
Words: Obama is opposed to the death penalty, but feels that some “heinous crimes” justify it. He supports alternate sentencing and rehabilitation over building more prisons. “The criminal justice system is not color blind. It does not work for all people equally, and that is why it’s critical to have a president who sends a signal that we are going to have a system of justice that is not just us, but is everybody.”
Actions: Obama voted FOR funding the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program (2007). CURE has given him a rating of 70%.
