McCain on Social Security
Words: McCain feels that there should be the individual option to invest Social Security funds and seems flexible on raising the cap on payroll tax. He believes that the trust fund should not be used for any “emergency spending”.
Actions: McCain voted FOR deducting Social Security payments on income taxes (1996), FOR allowing personal retirement accounts (1998), FOR allowing Roth IRAs for retirees (1998), FOR a Social Security lockbox and limiting the national debt (1999), and FOR using the Social Security surplus to fund tax reductions (1999). The ARA has given him a rating of 40%.
