Words: McCain feels that gay marriage should be left to the states and that the “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” policy is working and should be kept in place.
Actions: McCain voted AGAINST prohibiting job discrimination by sexual orientation (1996), FOR prohibiting same-sex marriage (1996), AGAINST including sexual orientation in hate crime legislation (2000 & 2002), and AGAINST a constitutional ban of same-sex marriage (2006).
