McCain on Jobs & Unemployment
Words: McCain is not a strong advocate for unionization, but feels we must protect small farmers.
Actions: McCain voted FOR replacing farm price supports (1996), FOR allowing workers to choose between overtime and comp-time (1997), FOR repealing the ergonomic rules on repetitive stress (2001), AGAINST raising the minimum wage to $7.25 rather than $6.25 (2005), FOR raising the minimum wage to $7.25 (2007), and AGAINST restricting employer interference in union organizing (2007). The AFL-CIO has given him a rating of 15%.
UPDATE: With a backdrop of the annual auto show taking place here in Detroit, the Michigan Republican Primary has centered on one major issue– the Economy– and who can best lead the state out of its long-term economic decline. Sen. John McCain’s much repeated comment that the jobs will not be returning is also likely to spur his critics.
