Withdrawn / Edwards on Oversight and Reform
Words: Edwards opposes contributions from lobbyists and feels they have far too much influence over policy - especially the oil and pharmaceutical industries - and feels they should disclose their activities. He advocates public financing of elections, believes lawyers should be held accountable for frivolous lawsuits, and opposes “soft money” contributions. He also argues that “the president is not above the law” and calls for an end to domestic spying and the expansion of executive powers under the Bush administration.
Actions: Edwards voted FOR banning campaign donations from unions and corporations (2001), AGAINST requiring a photo ID for voter registration (2002), and FOR banning “soft money” contributions and restrict issue ads targeting specific candidates (2002).
