Withdrawn / Huckabee on National Security

Mike HuckabeeWords: Huckabee believes enlistment can be increased through a Veterans’ Bill of Rights and argues that the overuse of our National Guard and Reserve is taking a toll on their families, their employers, and their communities. Huckabee advocates refusing student visas to citizens of “terrorist states”. He also argues that detainees at Guantanamo Bay “are being given every consideration” but that, if mistakes are being made, they should be on the side of protecting the American people.

Actions: Huckabee has not served in the US military. No other record.

Update: Although Gov. Huckabee came under fire from his rivals (primarily Gov. Romney) for saying the Bush administration suffered from a bunker mentality, his foreign policy is not easily distinguished from the President’s.

For many observers, Huckabee’s grasp of foreign affairs seems dangerously amateurish – he missed the NIE on Iran entirely and his only response to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto was to promote the wall along the Mexican border as a means of preventing illegal Pakistanis from entering the country.
