Withdrawn / Huckabee on Health Care
Words: Huckabee opposes universal health care and mandated health insurance. He feels that as much focus should be on education and prevention as on treatment and argues that the health market should be driven by the consumer rather than the government. He believes that we should focus more on health than on sickness: “I am convinced it is less expensive to prevent a problem than it is to try and fix it once it has grown into something much larger.” He proposes capping damages in malpractice suits and moving Medicare recipients into managed care.
Actions: As governor, Huckabee introduced the ARKids bill which expanded health care coverage for children. He signed the bill with a crayon.
Update: Gov. Huckabee’s earlier statements on this issue still reflect his views. No controversies have arisen with regard to his positions.
