Words: Huckabee feels “character education” should be included in school curricula. He advocates tax-credit programs for Christian schooling and supports prayer in schools. Actions: As governor, Huckabee helped reform education through Smart Start. Smart Step, and Next Step, programs that funded “character education”, set standards, and measured progress in Arizona schools.

Update: Gov. Huckabee’s earlier statements on this issue still reflect his views. No controversies have arisen with regards to his position.
