Withdrawn / Clinton on Oversight and Reform
Words: Clinton feels we should move toward public election financing rather than banning lobbyists and has called for an end to “soft money” if it includes independent ads. She also advocates ending voter discrimination providing verified paper ballots for every vote. She supports ending no-bid contracts, “the revolving door in government”, and opposes the privatization of government services. She is a strong supporter of transparency in the executive: ” Our Constitution is being shredded. We know about the secret wiretaps, the secret military tribunals, the secret White House e-mail accounts. … It is a stunning record of secrecy and corruption, of cronyism run amok. It is everything our founders were afraid of, everything our Constitution was designed to prevent.”
Actions: Clinton voted FOR banning campaign donations from unions and corporations (2001), AGAINST requiring a photo ID for voter registration (2002), FOR banning “soft money” contributions and restrict issue ads targeting specific candidates (2002), AGAINST the Senate Office of Public Integrity (2006), and AGAINST allowing some lobbyist gifts to Congress (2006). Citizens Against Government Waste has given her a rating of 17%.
