Words: Clinton maintains that “it takes a village” to raise a child and supports early childhood education, more mentoring, and more parent education programs. She opposes merit pay for individual teachers, but endorses merit pay for entire schools. She also supports higher pay for teachers and scholarships for teachers who promise to work in inner-city schools. She advocates more teachers and smaller classes, and opposes school vouchers.
Actions: Clinton voted FOR funding smaller classes and student testing instead of private tutors (2001), FOR spending tax cut funds on education (2001), FOR funding local educational agencies (2005), and FOR funding after-school programs (2005). The NEA has given her a rating of 82%.
