Withdrawn / Giuliani on Welfare & Poverty
Words: Giuliani believes that moving people off of welfare reduces crime and feels that welfare offices should serve as job centers - and that companies should receive tax credits for hiring welfare recipients. He also feels we need to address substance abuse, mental illness, and serious violent criminality in order to “reach out to people living on the streets”.
Actions: During Giuliani’s tenure as mayor of New York City, 460,000 were moved out of the welfare system.
UPDATE: This clip from a 1996 speech at Harvard at the Kennedy School of Government on immigration came back to haunt Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
