Withdrawn / Giuliani on Health Care
Words: Giuliani advocates a $15,000 tax credit for family health insurance. He opposes “socialized medicine” and feels we should give the poor “health vouchers”. He also advocates a switch from employer-dominated health insurance to individual choices, which he argues will increase competition and bring down costs, and the promotion of health savings accounts.
Actions: As mayor, Giuliani promoted the HealthStat initiative (an effort to enroll eligible children in available health care programs in NYC.
UPDATE: Mayor Rudy Giuliani used bad data to show that “socialised medicine” (as in this case England) were far inferior at cancer survival rates than the US. The dubious nature of his stats received lots play in the major media.
