Withdrawn / Kucinich on Health Care
Words: Kucinich advocates Enhanced Medicare for all - universal not-for-profit health care rather than the system of co-pays, premiums, and deductibles. “We have a nation of such wealth, yet we have 46 million Americans without any health insurance, another 50 million underinsured. It’s time for us to make every American know that they should have access. It is a basic right in a democratic society.”
Actions: Kucinich co-sponsored a bill to provide health care to all citizens. He voted AGAINST tax-exempt medical savings accounts (1999), FOR banning assisted suicide (1999), AGAINST subsidizing private insurance for Medicare drug coverage (2000), AGAINST allowing patients to sue HMOs with limited awards (2001), AGAINST capping damages in medical lawsuits (2003), FOR allowing the import of prescription drugs from Canada (2003), AGAINST limited drug benefits for Medicare recipients (2003), AGAINST limiting damages in medical malpractice suits to $250,000 (2004), AGAINST denying non-emergency treatment for lack of Medicare co-pay (2006), and FOR requiring negotiated prescription prices for Medicare (2007). The American Public Health Association has given Kucinich a rating of 100%.
